History

A large Blue Chip company was building a new multi-million pound office and research facility on the Surrey / Hampshire border.  As a benefit to the current employees, to attract new members of staff, and to enhance the other facilities that were to be on site (including a restaurant, 2 cafes and a shop), they were looking to include a Fitness Centre.

Strategy

Energy Fitness Professionals (EFP) held a number of meetings with the facilities management team to discuss the space, equipment, locations and demands that the organisation had for the facility and how EFP could assist.

They decided that they wanted to offer the Fitness Centre as a free service to all employees.

EFP delivered the option of a Wellbeing Centre, as opposed to the Fitness Centre, that would include the delivery of a fitness centre, studio area for classes, as well as a wide range of therapists and a concierge service for the staff.

They were able to select the options that they wanted to include from the proposals that EFP put forward, and agreed on the service level to be delivered.

Between EFP and the Organisation, the required equipment was chosen and purchased for all areas of the Wellbeing Centre, and layouts for the gym were agreed and implemented.

A highly qualified and motivated Fitness Team were put in place to ensure that the facility was ready to open as soon as the building was fully populated. As staff started moving into the building the Fitness Team were carrying out the pre induction assessments including blood pressure and health checks, which meant that when the gym opened on the 13th November 2000 there was already over 400 members ready to start training immediately.

A range of therapists had been hired to offer services such as hairdressing, beauty treatments, massage, osteopathy, chiropody and many more and these services started in early January 2001.

The Concierge service was up and running immediately with the sole purpose of taking away the small chores that people do at work and allowing them to focus on their job; these services included – ordering flowers, theatre tickets, car services or valets, as well as paying in cheques or taking items to the post office.

Benefits under EFP Management

Due to the site being a new build, there are no statistics or figures that we can compare the Wellbeing Centre against.  The development, right from the start, has been hassle-free for the organisation, and the Wellbeing Centre was smoothly integrated into the site.

The quality and scope of the services offered are continually improving, which is supported by the high usage levels of the facilities.
