History

A large university in the South-East was looking to enhance their fitness facilities and to outsource the management.  They had a wide range of equipment which was seven years old and did not fit in with the modern look of the campus.

The site has 2000 staff on campus and 12,000 students.  The fitness centre was accessible by the local community, but it was believed that only 10% of the total membership came from the community.

The layout of the facilities did not provide an area for administration or sales led objectives, and to this extent the potential of the gym was not being maximised.

Strategy

EFP delivered a number of solutions of which the University were able to ‘cherry pick’ from and refine as they believed appropriate.  The flexible proposals were put in place to ensure that the facilities maximum potential was achieved.

EFP invested in an equipment replacement programme and fitted the facility out with state of the art Life Fitness equipment.  The fitness facility was refurbished to equal its modern surroundings, and it was given its own identity.

An experienced and pro-active gym team was appointed to ensure that the club achieved the joint vision of EFP and the University.

To provide minimal disruption to the previous facilities, a comprehensive implementation plan was developed and adhered to.

Marketing and advertisement of the facilities was implemented to reach the public in the local communities – an area with enormous potential to increase membership levels.

Benefits under EFP Management

Since EFP took on the contract management in 2006, income has improved by 96% and the profit delivered back to the University has increased by 275%.  This has been achieved by restructuring the memberships available, the operational procedures of the facility, and ensuring that the management model is structured in a way that it is mutually beneficial.

We are also going from strength to strength by continually increasing performance in terms of the number of new members, class attendees, bookings and overall usage of the facility.
